Indian Officials ignore libraries Archaic rules, ‘redundant’ act hinders growth

The state of affairs of libraries here is indicative of lack of professionalism and official apathy in maintaining them.
Though library science degree holders are moving from pillar to post seeking job for the available posts of librarians and assistant librarians in a number of schools and colleges, the government is banking on non-professionals to run the libraries.
“There are a number of posts lying vacant in scores of Institutions but the Government is not ready to advertise the posts as a result of which the library professionals are sitting idle at their homes,” said a member of Unemployed Library Professionals Association (ULPA).
