Huntington (NY) library demands liability insurance for political forums

Anonymous Patron writes “”The Huntington Library has informed the Huntington Chapter of the Long Island Progressive Coalition that approval for the continuation of the monthly series of “Patriot Gamesâ€? forums, now in their third year, has been withdrawn because the Chapter can not produce a $1,000,000.00 liability insurance policy to cover each event. (LIPC’s insurance carrier estimates that the cost for such insurance would be $350 per meeting, plus costs or $4,200.00 + per year.)”

    unanswered questions
    Is it really only political forums that have to pay the fee?

    If the group has been doing this for two years already what caused the change in policy?

    Why $1 million? How much damage are they expecting to be caused?

    Wouldn’t it be cheaper in the long run for everyone to pony up and turn the meeting room into a rubber room? No damage there.

    Unless they are doing this to all groups that meet at the library then the Long Island liberals should sue.

    I did go to the home page and they suggest people contact moveon.org and some other group about the SCOTUS vacancy since Sinead O’Connor quit (yes I know). Did I sleep through something? Are we now voting for supreme court justices? I thought the president picked the justice and the Senate confirmed the choice. If you want to contact someone contact the president or your Senator.

    Let me help out those who think moveon or any other group can influence this, neither the president nor your senator really give a damn what you think, sorry. That is just the way it is.
