Patron Saint of Bloggers
I think bloggers owe a lot to Gonzo, whether or not you like his (life)style or not. Like blogging, Thompson’s style of “gonzo” journalism was referred to as the “new journalism.”
I’ve posted some choice Gonzo quotes over at Tinfoil + Raccoon.

We usually put up a book display when someone noteable dies. I asked the guy who usually does it if he was pulling Thompson books, and he said “no” because Thompson killed himself. This doesn’t make any sense to me, given that Thompson is not only a significant figure in journalism, but a cultural icon. Am I missing something?
Re:Patron Saint of Bloggers
There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
HST, you will be missed.
Re:Display
It’s fairly common for the local media to supress news about people that commit suicide, for fear of copycats. That’s about all I can think of.
I will miss him … BIG HUG for Juan, Jen, Willam and Anita… who never be able to fill the hole left in there lives by the man in spite of the myth and legend attached to his life..
I will miss him

I’m missing something too
I think your coworker’s reasoning is sort screwy. Does he just not like Hunter S. Thompson?
Re:Display
I’m not really sure what the deal is, but I’m going to go ahead and pull some stuff if it hasn’t been all checked out already.
