Houston Library Celebrates 100 Years; Gets Makeover

The Curmudgeony Librarian writes “The Public Library of Houston celebrates its anniversary this fall with a special website celebrating its past one hundred years. The site has a special memory book section where patrons can explore reminisces from fellow patrons or submit their own. Also on the page is a history of the library.

In related news, the Houston’s Jesse H. Jones library will receive a massive $12 million top-to-bottom renovation as part of the library system’s hundredth anniversary. The six-story building will be renovated floor-by-floor in order to remain open during the work. Improvements include, an expanded children’s area, self-checkout machines, wireless access, and a coffee shop. The renovation is scheduled to be completed in 2006.”
