Hillsborough (FL) County Commission votes against popular DVDs

mdoneil writes “In a 6-1 decision the Hillsborough County Commission recommended that the Tampa-Hillsborough library no longer purchase entertainment DVDs.

The driving force behind this measure is Commissioner Rhonda Storms.

The resolution as far as I can tell is nonbinding but I really don’t follow my adjacent county’s library governance machinactions. The county has a library director who receives guidance from the library board (as far as I can tell the org chart is as confusing as Venn diagrams in braille).

I’m glad it is the next county spends their tax dollars micromanaging the library through a county commission that has not a single librarian, nor which consulted a librarian in making thier apparently non-binding resolution.

The article from the Tampa Tribune is here. It offers some comments from librarians outside Hillsborough county too. None from me, but I just ordered ~$750 worth of DVDs (which is a lot with an acquisitions budget like mine).”
