Dave Watson’s article on the Vancouver Library overlooked the most monstrous inefficiency of the system: in-house librarians who most of the time have little to do except chat with their coworkers, play on the computer, or, like Ratbert, try to look busy. Most of the questions they do get could be answered by anyone, including the security guard.
Their information hegemony is illusory. It’s over. The librarian wears no clothes.
Does that mean it’s a clothing optional work environment in Vancouver?”
