Richard Kreimer, 55, who successfully sued the Morristown (NJ) Library for harassment (they ejected him due to his unappealing smell), is now pursuing another target, New Jersey Transit. The stakes are much higher this time, he’s suing for $5,000,000.000, as the court award of $230,000 from his 1991 suit has long been spent on medical expenses from a number of chronic health problems.
Here’s the news on the current suit, an audio interview from NPR and a suit from last year against the transit system in Philadelphia.
Wow…
I don’t even want to think about how bad someone must have to smell to get kicked off SEPTA.
He sued…and LOST the case.
You might be interested to know that the 1991 judgement against Morristown and Morris Township Library was overturned on appeal. It’s true that the insurance company chose to pay before the appeal, but that doesn’t change the fact that the library won the case. You might want to read about it
at http://www.librarylaw.com/Behaviorcases.html .
In fact, many libraries across the nation model their patron behavior policies on those of Morristown and Morris Township Library’s, precisely because they held up in court.
It’s unfortunate that this case continues to be wrongly reported and Mr. Kreimer continues to be portrayed as someone who was unfairly treated by the library. There’s always another side to a story.
