Biblia, the Warrior writes “
You have to feel sorry for author of “A Brief History of Time”, Stephen Hawking. After spending 30 years working on the theory that (astronomical) black holes only suck in information, he is about to present a paper that recants that theory.
The article at KRON4 states that he made a bet made with John Preskill of Caltech on the information-retentive nature of black holes which he will lose if he successfully makes his case. “The forfeit is an encyclopedia, from which Preskill can recover information at will”.

Ruining a perfectly good metaphor
The terms of the bet were that “information swallowed by a black hole is forever hidden and can never be revealed.”
If that’s false, NOW what am I going to call the desk of a certain upper level administrator?
Re:Ruining a perfectly good metaphor
Astrophysics is a little out of my sphere of expertise, but from the small parts I do understand I think Hawking is arguing that after a period of time (possibly millions of years?) some information can be gained from the Black Hole.
So the desk of your upper level administrator may still safely be referred to as previously. Unless of course, you work for an immortal …
