A Rather Short One from India on the 10 per cent library cess. ‘Local bodies such as corporations and municipalities should hand over 10 per cent library cess collected along with house tax from public to libraries’ said M Muthusamy, secretary of Tamilnadu Library Association.
In a press meet here yesterday, Muthusamy said that the posts of librarians in almost all major libraries have not been filled for several years including the one in Connemara Library, Chennai. Out of 17 universities in the State, the posts of librarian in 10 universities are also vacant.
R Muthukumaraswamy, president of the association expressed his anguish over the negligence of Madras University in appointing assistant librarian for the past nine years despite the High Court order.
