Half of UK library visitors aren’t there for the books

Report: less than half Calderdale library users go in to borrow a book. One in five treat the building as an information bureau and one in six are more interested in getting free access to computers.
Many young people treat libraries as a waiting room or a place to meet friends, a survey has shown. But by broadening their appeal, Calderdale Council has managed to stem the shrinking demand for library services and during the past four years the number of users has been gradually increasing.
