Anonymous Patron writes “The Morning News Reports A group of Fayetteville School District patrons joined together Thursday to do battle with the district over what they see as objectionable books in school libraries.
The loose-knit group, calling itself Parents Protecting the Minds of Children, wants parents to have more authority over the library books children can get.”

This might be a bit off-topic, but the way some schools restrict a child’s bathroom breaks is far more “dangerous” and unhealthy than anything they might read in the library. I had a sixth grade teacher that forbid any bathroom breaks. Her logic was that if you could go all night (without going to the bathroom), you can go all day… A principal at that same school actually closed down the boys’ bathroom for an entire day to punish a few for valdalism. The proprietor of the hair salon across the street wondered what was going on when she saw a student peeing in the bushes over at the school…
The students at my high school were exposed to some VERY bad examples when striking teachers threw nails in the parking lot and vandalized substitutes’ cars. Do parents ever get upset about their children being exposed to this type of behavior? What about how the teachers badly treat students that would rather sit quitely and read in a study hall instead of attending a pep rally and watching a bunch of slutty cheerleaders shake their butts? “Shame on you, you have no school spirit…”
I could go on, but I think that’s enough for now… Thanks everybody, I’ve had a rough week…

Score another one for the teachers’ unions!
Re:Perspective
The point I’m trying to make is that of all the reasons to jump on board and advocate for your child, this is far from the most pressing. I probably read a few books my parents would have objected to (but then, my mother thought the Muppet Show was too violent), and you know what? I’m not on drugs, I don’t drink, I haven’t had a child out of wedlock, I finished a Master’s degree by the time I was 23, I have a job, I don’t have a criminal record, I don’t molest kids, I’m happily married, I own a home, I’ve never been divorced, and I don’t show any cleavage when I leave the house…
I mean, honestly…Where are the parents when the REALLY bad stuff starts happening to their kids???
