Grokster Loses File-Sharing Case

…and here’s the story from pcworld.

MGM, now owned by Sony (SNE)(67586758), and other big-name movie and music companies sued Grokster and StreamCast Networks, the parent of file-sharer Morpheus, arguing the primary use of such networks is for the illegal distribution of copyrighted materials.

The high court agreed, voting 9 to 0 against Grokster and StreamCast, and remanded the case to a lower court for further proceeding.

Additionally, those who supported Grokster argued the case has broader implications, saying that if copyright owners are able to sue inventors of new technologies for the sins of their users, few technology companies would be safe.
