Great 1996 Packard Bell Commercial On YouTube

Bibliofuture pointed the way to a fantastic Old Packard Bell Commercial from 1996 that showed libraries as dark dreary places and suggested you access information from home on a Packard Bell computer. Librarians reacted strongly to the commercial and Packard Bell reworked the ad and removed the library scenes.
Karen Coyle doesn’t seem to like it as much as I do. I especially liked the marching-shushing librarians who looked like pro wrestlers in Mountie uniforms.

    This may not reflect well on libraries but it is quite a beautiful commercial. And really, haven’t we all felt like that some days?

    Disregarding the negative images of libraries I really did think that the commercial was a very artisitic piece. I think the creator was trying to play in the same ball park as the 1984 Super Bowl Apple Computer ad.
    When the controversy was swirling around in 1996 people linked to the ad so that people could see it. I think it might have been on the Packard Bell website. I saved a copy of the file. Later it disappeared and you could not find the file anywhere. The original file plays smoother than the Youtube compressed version.

    Now for halloween I want to get a red mounty uniform and some face paint (to do the little marks above their eyes) and go to any halloween party I attend as a “librarian”.
