Google, book store, or library?

Over On Gather.com a librarian asks “when you need books, information, or entertainment, where do you get it? I bet that many of you use google, right? As a librarian, I have mixed feelings about web based information seeking.”

I work in a library, and I am proud to do so. I am lucky to work in a building that is six months old, has a mezzanine, meeting rooms, wi-fi access, thirty public computer terminals, and a children’s computer lab inside a simulated sailing ship (see illustration). It cost our community six million dollars to build this, about the price of an elementary school. Some of the local citizens think it was a waste of money. But others tell me that they think it is the best thing about Hopewell, Virginia.
