It could solve the residency requirements for some librarians if they set aside a place for whoever runs it.

I wish they’d do this in places other than NYC, I’d love to live on top of a library! Maybe then I could return my books on time!
There’s a new book by MIT Press, too
It’s talked about at the MIT Libraries blog. The Access Principle: the case for open access to research and scholarship is written by John Willinsky at the University of British Columbia. Reading the mini-review, I’m inclined to suggest this book to our acquisitions staff.

They did this already in Portland, OR at the Sellwood Branch of the Multnomah County Library. The housing above is nice, although not quite affordable.

One of our libraries has a multistorey housing cooperative built above it and it is very successful. There is also a pub in the basement. That may be even more successful, for all I know.
