Getting People Involved…Library Card Design Contest

Here’s a nice story about library cards from Sign on San Diego.

Residents of Chula Vista, CA were invited to design new library cards, and the ideas came in droves. More than 200 people from 4 to 73 years old participated in the contest; winning designs will be announced at a reception tomorrow, and then be used for the city’s library cards.

The contest was divided into four age groups: kindergarten through third grade; grades four through six; grades seven through 12; and adults. The youngest age group was assigned the theme “My First Library Card.” The other groups used the theme: “I Love My Library.”

Some of the designs are especially intricate, considering the size of the canvas. Gretchen Kasler, 19, drew a dragon, surrounded by hardcovers, engrossed in a book. Nicole Bella, 15, interpreted the theme of discovery with a three-part illustration radiating from an open book.
