Manchester News Salford was home to the country’s first unconditionally free public library in 1850.
But now council bosses in the city want to close popular Hope Library at the junction of Stott Lane and Eccles Old Road, Salford.
Councillors were told at a private meeting of the possible closure of the library by Councillor Barry Warner, the city’s arts and leisure boss.
