The Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library (Brenham, Tex.) is holding a fund-raising spelling bee. Local businesses and civic clubs have been invited to enter teams of six players in the November 4 competition. The $250 entry fees will help buy practice tests (e.g., GED, GRE, SAT, ESL) and tutorials. [Spelling bee to challenge adults, raise library funds]

In Arkansas, the Prairie Grove Library is trying to raise $75,000 to renovate a resale shop into a freestanding children’s library. They’ve had kids’ events with children’s book writers and illustrators, asked children to save their pennies, held a pancake breakfast and a garage sale, and they just started a read-a-thon. So far, they’ve raised $13,000. [Princesses tea parties : Parents, children raising money for Prairie Grove Library]
