Fujitsu Develops Electronic Paper

Anonymous Patron writes: “Fujitsu has unveiled a film-based, flexible color display they’re calling ‘Electronic Paper.’

The Register has the story, with pictures.

The display requires only power to change images, making it energy efficient. It can also maintain an image without power. Fujitsu said it aims to commercialize it in 2007, but it is very likely that this new technology will be a hit, because, since the display is a simple passive matrix driver, chips are already available.”

So called e-ink technology has been on the horizon for awhile now, but as with the e-books, only time will tell what this means for libraries and the printed word.
