Fang-Face writes “Harkening back to a story posted to LISNews back in 2005, an Associated Press article about the town of Ave Maria was posted to the First Amendment Center web site on 25 July. Despite Catholic feel, developers say Fla. town will be inclusive. It seems all the hoo-rah about the town being mono-sectarian was just a big misunderstanding.
Still, I wonder what the public libraries in this town will look like in terms of collection development.”
You could look up the answers
The town of Ave Maria will use county services like many smaller towns in Florida. The county will provide law enforcement through the Sheriff’s Department, EMS and firefighting through the Immokalee Fire Control District, a special district set up for the purpose of providing fire and rescue services and able to levy property taxes.
The collection development policy of the library will be the collection development policy of the Collier County Library which serves Ave Maria and all of the other residents of Collier County.
There are more Scientologists in Clearwater, Florida than Catholics in Ave Maria, and I don’t worry about the collection development policy there. Sure there are a number of Dianetics and L. Ron Hubbard books in the library but no one has forced me to read any of them.
All of these answers are readily available, if you wished to consult the official information provided by the city, the county, and the library.
