Florida Library Looks At the Roots of Author Alex Haley

An exhibit in the Fort Lauderdale library about African-American author Alex Haley (1921-1992) brings to light a lot of details about the author of ‘Roots’ and the ghostwriter of ‘The Autobiography of Malcolm X’. Exhibits include unpublished manuscripts, photos and letters penned by young and old, from near and far, showing how much he was admired.

From the article: “Among the most humorous: a note written by Alex Applebaum in 1986.

“May I please have your autograph,” wrote Applebaum, his thick, block letters proof of his young age. “I’m doing a school project on your life. Please send your autograph fast. It’s due soon.” The Miami Herald reports.
