June’s flood knocked out an integral part of the Rock Springs and LaValle communities — their public libraries. Neither will reopen anytime in the foreseeable future.
In Rock Springs the damage to the library, located on the basement floor of the community center, is especially painful because just a few days before the flood a lengthy renovation had been completed.
LaValle’s library is also closed. It lost about a fifth of its collection after interior of the building, which it shares with the village hall, was under a foot of water for two days.
I just do not get it
Why is it that so many companies and libraries make no attempt to do a disaster risk assessment and the planning (disaster mitigation and recovery) that comes out of one. Did the thought never cross their minds that HEY, maybe we are susceptible to flooding since we are in a BASEMENT.
