Bibliotrope writes “There was a four-alarm fire early this morning at the historic Homewood branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Flames were seen ‘shooting from the roof.’
No word yet on the extent of damage or the cause, but firefighters ‘used tarps to help cover computers, books and other library resources to prevent water damage,’ according to the story from WTAE Channel 4.”

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the fire was apparently the result of “an electrical problem in a concealed space between the third floor ceiling and the roof.” An early estimate of the damage is $70,000. But the fire rekindled about 11 a.m. so it may be higher. “A spokeswoman for the library said an insurance adjuster and an archivist were on the scene”, apparently at the time of the second fire.
