But some question whether the safety precautions create too great of a roadblock to online research and study. The Lee County School District this year, in compliance with a new federal law, has cracked down even further on Internet use and strengthened its barriers against harmful materials. The 2001 Children’s Internet Protection Act requires school districts and public libraries to block access to pornography and other harmful materials.
