Fight brewing over porn law Bookstores say effort goes too far

Schuler Books is among 12 stores and literary groups suing the state over a new law requiring sexually explicit material to be partially covered on the shelves.

The groups say the law goes too far and could apply to classic novels that depict erotic scenes.

They claim the law is vague, unconstitutional and infringes on adults’ rights to browse material that could be harmful to minors. The law is intended to shield minors from material – such as pornographic magazines and videotapes – that shows sexually explicit acts.
