Two article on Facebook – articles look at data privacy and ownership
Austrian Law Student Faces Down Facebook
Max Schrems’s crusade against the information collected by the social network has become a cause célèbre in parts of Europe, looming over the company as it prepares to go public.
Disruptions: Facebook Users Ask, ‘Where’s Our Cut?’
Without the free content created by its 850 million users, Facebook would surely not be on the verge of a multibillion-dollar initial public offering.
The answer is the similar to both articles really
If you don’t like it don’t use it and you don’t pay to use it so you are already getting your moneys worth.
It is not compulsory to use Facebook. You do not pay to use Facebook, and you choose what to put up there of your own accord.
always 2 ways to see this, and then there’s the right way
the usual two ways are:
1, you owe us for all our labor
2, you’re stupid enough to give away your data, you get nothing.
and the right way to view this problem is to drop Facebook. then demand a contract to come back. this is the perfect time. if 200 million people left, it could change everything for everyone. but since I’m taking about Facebook users, they won’t leave because they love their cages and will work for free forever. I’ve blogged about this form of slavery a few times, but still, you give away your milk for free.
your payment comes in the form of a free service
The second article (about how FB owes its users some arbitrary amount of money for the data they create) is ludicrous. I haven’t read anything that audaciously stupid in a long time.
Facebook provides you a service (for free). They host your pictures and videos, they connect you with friends and colleagues, they provide games and other entertainment opportunities, all FOR FREE.
The fact that they want to make money off of this endeavor does not mean that you are owed money.
To draw an analogy: many people spend hours in front of a tv. This author would have them be paid to watch the commercials that come up in between programs.
