The history of bookmarks is one of those tragic stories in technology. When bookmarks were first introduced (by Netscape? or maybe it was Mosaic?) they were a huge step forward. Trying to memorize urls or writing them on paper clearly weren’t methods that worked well. The idea — and so simple too — that the browser could remember the urls for you was the perfect solution.
Sadly, since the “big bang” of bookmarks there have been precious few new explosions.
Such a shame there are no good alternatives
You know, alternatives that would allow you to flag pages and sites for later use, maybe with tags that make them more sensible, and even group them logically.
You could even give such an alternative a name, maybe something meaningless like Diigo or Delicious. And you might even be able to put their triggers right on your web address toolbar.
But of course there are no such alternatives, so we’re stuck with crappy bookmarks.

That’s what I kept thinking! Diigo or Delicious (or any of those others) do a pretty good job, and also add in Reader and I think those tools aren’t so bad. I actually never ever ever add bookmarks to my, uh, bookmarks and haven’t for years.
