E-readers create big library buzz in Decatur

In all of 2009, Decatur Public Library young adult librarian Eleanor Wood got “maybe three” phone calls about the availability of e-books from the library and whether they could be used with electronic readers, better known as e-readers.

One caller expressed his surprise the library didn’t have an e-book system in place yet, but library staff was unsure if there was a citywide demand for the service. In a year’s time, however, any questions about the interest in e-reader accessible books have been answered, and then some.

“Now the calls are coming constantly,” Wood said before Christmas. “Especially with the holiday coming, I get people calling at least once or twice a day, asking which e-readers work with the new LibraryOnTheGo system.”
