Entry exam is easy to join librarian’s Claus collection

Now That’s A Hobby! Karen Cornell, a librarian at Pellissippi State Technical Community College, estimates there could be “a couple of thousand” Santa faces, figures, teapots, candlesticks, ornaments and more in her collection.

She takes a week off in November to set out all the Kris Kringles gathered over 20 years.

Most Santas are stored after the holiday, but hundreds stay out year-round. Many are faces and small figures hanging from push pins on two sides of the Cornell home’s front hall. Two large woodcarvings of St. Nick’s face are mounted permanently above each side of the front door. A 3-foot St. Nicholas and cabinet shelf filled with selected Santas are displayed all year.
