shoe writes “From AlwaysOn comes this op-ed piece on informal learning and community libraries. John Seely Brown discusses with the author how informal learning happens outside of school, and might be more successful than the efforts at formal education that traditional schooling provides.
Your favorite place of informal learning and mine, the library, is a major influence for the author. In contrast to the story posted earlier about the Google generation, this piece explains why libraries are relevant, and maybe gives some hints in directions we can move in.

Microsoft made Bill Gates the world’s wealthiest man. The foundation is establishing him as one of the world’s great heroes…and is making real strides toward improving third-world health and conditions. (Consider who’s funding malaria vaccine research.) I suspect Gates (who I’ve never met) believes he can do a whole lot more with the foundation over the next 20-30 years than he can at Microsoft. I suspect he’s right.
