If someone does not want their children or grandchildren to read a particular book or kind of book. Fine! They should accompany those children to the library. I have accompanied a number of children to the library and told them “No, this is not acceptable reading material for you.” I have told children that certain television shows, movies, etc. are not appropriate.

I know the word “NO!” and I know how to use it. And I know how to use it appropriately. I use it for me – I don’t watch or read much that is violent or strongly sexually oriented. I’m not interested. And I use the word “NO!â€? when children are entrusted in my care because I’m responsible for said children. The government is not responsible, nor the library nor the librarian – the absent parent who doesn’t care all THAT much is.

What happened to parents taking responsibility? If one can’t handle the responsibility of parenting, don’t have children. Stop blaming every body else. The library should censor books for adults, because there are parents who are too lazy or stupid to know what is going on in their children’s lives? If you want the government telling you what YOU can read . . . sigh . . . it would make our lives easier, yes . . . better . . . I beg to differ.

Have you been raising that 13yo child? If you haven’t raised him correctly up to now to know what is right and what is wrong. It is almost certainly too late. Or were you planning to protect him from absoultely everything until he turns . . . 21 . . . 30 . . . 18 . . . 14?

Take responsibility for how you have raised him. Quit expecting everyone else to do YOUR job.

Or just tell him to be anonymous wherever he goes – Anonymous Patron/Parent.
