Dismiss Patriot Act challenge, feds urge

The Detroit News Reports The Justice Department has asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit challenging a controversial section of the USA Patriot Act.

In July, the ACLU filed suit in Detroit on behalf of six community groups, asking a federal judge to invalidate a provision of the act.

“Maintaining the secrecy of such investigations is therefore centrally important to the government’s ability to gather information regarding the activities of international terrorists and hostile foreign adversaries without causing the disclosure of information that would undermine its efforts to prevent further acts of terrorism,” said the Justice Department’s 35-page response that was filed Friday.
