Digitization Brings New Set of Problems for Libraries

This story from the Chicago Sun Times tells about the numerous downsides to digitization that libraries are grappling with. Chicago’s Newberry Library was the recent venue for a conference, The Economics of Digitization which “brought together librarians from universities, colleges and historical societies as well as museum curators and commercial publishers to talk about how they can stretch their resources.”

Issues discussed were how to sustain grant-funded programs, what to do about changing technologies, and how to work collaboratively to make digitization projects more efficient and effective.
