Digital History pioneer Rosenzweig dies

Cavan writes “Digital history pioneer Roy A. Rosenzweig died on Oct. 11 (Washington Post Obituary). He was a professor of George Mason University, where he founded the Center for History and New Media. Probably the most memorable product of that Center is the September 11 Digital Archive, which preserves more than 150,000 digital items relating to the events of September 11, 2001, and its aftermath. In 2003 the Archive was accepted into the Library of Congress collections as LoC’s first major digital acquisition. Dr. Rosenzweig was co-author, with Daniel J. Cohen, of "Digital History: A Guide to Gathering, Preserving, and Presenting the Past on the Web"; a free version is available online. He was also active in the movement in favor of Open Access to the results of research in the humanities (link) and recently published a paper discussing "Can History be Open Source? Wikipedia and the Future of the Past"”
