The co-creator of the most popular role playing game in the world died Tuesday, April 7th, bringing an unhappy ending to a long battle with cancer. He was 61.
Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax met at a gaming convention and eventually combined the rules for separate fantasy games they’d created. This merging of rules became Dungeons & Dragons, the basis for many other role playing games to come. Along with the gaming franchise, which turns out rule books to this day; the D&D line spawned hundreds of novels set in the various worlds of the game.
