Davenport school librarian wins state honor

twistedlibrarian writes “Sue Ferrell is among the first of a new breed of school librarians whose learning tools include not only books but online data bases, compact discs, digital cameras and other technology.

Certified as a classroom teacher, the Davenport woman was one of the first graduates of the University of Iowa’s master’s degree in educational media program back in 1971. Over the years, she became a leader in the development of educational information services for the Davenport School District.

On Friday, Ferrell, the library media specialist at Truman Elementary School in Davenport, will be honored by Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack as one of 12 outstanding Iowa teacher-librarians. Vilsack will present her with The Glass Apple during a ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
