Dark day at county libraries

San Luis Obispo Tribune reports A steady stream of disgruntled patrons found locked doors at San Luis Obispo County’s branch libraries Monday on the first day of the system’s new, reduced-access schedule.

Library officials decided to close the branches on Mondays after voters in November rejected a quarter-cent tax increase proposed to keep them solvent.

“I don’t think I realized the reality of it until this morning,” said San Luis Obispo resident Donna Kalkowski, who was hoping to return books just before lunch at the San Luis Obispo City/County Library. “I was discouraged that (Measure L) failed.””
