… The glasses I’m wearing now cost more than twice the ones they’re giving away, and I’m still not conspicuously sexy.

Do you have to actually show that you’ve got that sexy librarian look, or is the point of the contest to help you out with that endeavor. Are men eligible? That’s kind of a crap contest if you ask me. Any trip the the eye doc I’ve had in the past year has never come in under $400. Sheesh.

It’s Redbook, so I’d have to assume that men are encouraged not to enter. Besides, it’s a sweepstakes, not a contest. It would be interesting, however, if it were a true contest where you had to write a short essay…

We can do better than that! I can SEE it now a joint Lisnews/Flickr contest…our glasses, contacts, pince nez, etc. photos of em (we don’t actually have to be wearing them) and perhaps votes for most librarian-like specs… etc.

Anyone can enter
male or female. Otherwise they would be hit with a discrimination lawsuit. The magazine is aimed at traditionally stereotypical female interests but I don’t think they would discourage anyone, even if they are male, from reading it and participating in their contests.

I was just browsing through a new book of well-known nicknames yesterday (you know – Jackie Gleason was known as Mr. Saturday Night, that sort of thing) and I did see an entry for “The Body.” Several models and actresses have been known by this monicker.

Shall the winner be known as “The Glasses” or possibly “The Eyewear”? Surely not as “Specs.”
