Newszap.com has this story about a new library branch in Phoenix. Slated to open in February 2005, the library was designed by the firm Richard + Bauer. Some large boxes on top of the building, containing the air handling units, were originally painted “sage green, dark gold and blue-gray.” Residents complained that the colors did not mesh with the surrounding desert, and the colors were modified to match the “desert palette.”
Okay, so it’s not quite as fun to read about as Seattle, but it’s interesting enough.
timeless color
At my previous job they had just built a new library and the chairs in the reading area had a sorta Arizona/New Mexico style pattern to them. It ranked right up there with 70’s orange carpet as fashion that you knew was wrong as soon as you saw it.
How would this work in Houston?
I’m trying to imagine how a building’s color scheme would be matched to Houston surroundings. Here are some thoughts:
It’s hard to think of colors natural to Houston. There is lots of vegetation here, but often the buildings in an area dwarf it.
