RIP Devin Zimmerman, librarian at Northeast Lakeview College.
Zimmerman, a 37-year-old librarian and instructor at Northeast Lakeview College, was gunned down Monday afternoon in the school library. Alan Godin, a 62-year-old co-worker and fellow librarian, has been charged in Zimmerman’s slaying. According to this article in My San Antonio, friends and colleagues remembered the shooting victim as “a technology whiz” who was always thinking of creative and innovative ways to do his job. He posted videos on YouTube showing students how to use library services, and won an Amigos Fellowship to research best practices for helping disabled students. This article has statements from a student Ramon Cantu who was quite close to Zimmerman, and suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.

If you didn’t have the honor of knowing Devin Zimmerman and you want to get a sense of who he was and the magnitude of his impact on others, I encourage you to read the comments on his memorial blog which is linked off the Northeast Lakeview College’s main page. Devin was a 100-watt long burning bulb. He was too big for words and we all have suffered a tremendous loss.
