Clash erupts at Salinas library vigil

Anonymous Patron writes Clash erupts at Salinas library vigil – Local News – thecalifornian.com A candlelight vigil Monday night to mourn the approaching closure of the Salinas public library system turned into a confrontation between participants and Mayor Anna Caballero.

Caballero shouted down a couple of residents who blamed her for the libraries’ fate, calling on them to stop complaining and contribute.

“You got a buck, let’s put it right here,” she said, pointing at the grass outside the John Steinbeck Library on Lincoln Avenue where the vigil was held. She reiterated, as she has often during the past few months, that the city cannot afford to keep the libraries open in part because of state raids on local revenue.”
