\”ASL Access is a fully volunteer, non-profit organization (EIN 54-1887224)with a mission for placement of American Sign Language (ASL) video resources in public libraries. My family donated the first ASL Access Video Collection to the District of Columbia Public Library, in honor of deaf librarian Alice L. Hagemeyer. This collection opened June 15, 1999. DCPL AV staff now find that these ASL videos circulate more than just about everything else in AV put together. ASL Access is able to act as a liaison among sponsors (donating collections), library staff, ASL-using library customers (most of whom are hearing people), and ASL video publishers to provide the collection as a donation to a library. (Funding is usually found locally.) Libraries may also purchase the ASL Access Video Collection from ASL Access. We buy the videos from over 50 ASL publishers and vendors. The collection is only available as a package from ASL Access, at the discounted price of $8000. Included are over 200 ASL videos, with accompanying books. We have placed the ASL Access Video Collection in 19 locations in twelve states.
