California Voters say “no” to Props 81, 82

Both propositions on the primary elections ballot Tuesday appeared to be heading for defeat at the hands of California voters.

As of 10:52 p.m. Tuesday, with 21 percent of precincts reporting, 54.3 percent voted “no” on Proposition 81, and 59 percent voted “no” on Proposition 82. The Bad News on Proposition 81 that would have provided funds toward public library facilities, which supporters said would expand access to literacy programs in the state’s public education system and expand access to public library services for all residents of California. The funds would be allocated through a bond issue worth no more than $600 million.
As few as one in three registered voters was expected to cast ballots, according to an estimate by the Field Poll. The predicted 34 percent turnout would be the lowest turnout since the organization began making predictions in 1946.
