Scotsman.com’s Education Section reports A POPULAR children’s author is spearheading a drive to encourage children to learn about their heritage by reading Scottish literature.
Edinburgh-based children’s writer Joan Lingard has joined forces with other authors to launch the Braw project, urging schools to promote books written in Scotland to pupils.

Looking at the 100 Best Scottish Books of All Time list, I noticed Scottish author George MacDonald. MacDonald is called “one of the founding fathers of modern fantasy” in Gale’s Literary Resource Center.
The children’s book that comes to mind is his The Princess and the Goblin, which “showed the triumph of virtuous young people over evil goblins and corrupt adults.” MacDonald said, “I do not write for children, but for the childlike, whether of five, or fifty, or seventy-five.”
