Rich writes “Wednesday’s Boston Globe had an editorial against
filtering in libraries.”
From the editorial:
“Libraries rightfully ”filter” their holdings all the time. They decide what materials to offer and what materials seem inappropriate. If library staff members want to use filters to protect children, they should do so. But as Justice John Paul Stevens points out in his dissenting opinion, librarians should make this decision, not Congress. Stevens also points out that filters are a flimsy defense. They ”underblock,” letting some pornography through, and they block sites that may have sexual terms but contain, as Stevens writes, ”constitutionally protected speech on a wide variety of topics.””
Sigh … BACKER WANTED! 🙁
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I need legal, financial, organizational, backing for my censorware work. I can’t continue it for no pay, with no legal protection, and minimal press impact. It’s just not sustainable
I’ll take Fries with that Big Mac, Seth
Yes Seth, but what are you going to do for a job? You’ve been unemployed now for about a year, and isn’t your unemployement running out? Will you be taking a job at McDonalds? I notice on Monster.com that there are over *50 job openings* for web programmers in the Boston area. Why can’t you even get one of these jobs in the now-booming tech sector? Is it because any prospective employer who googles sees what a psycho you are?
