Two childrens book author/librarians, Gina Macaluso and Mary Margaret Mercado have a pretty basic approach to helping kids learn to read.
“The kids who love to read will be the most successful,” Mercado said. In her eyes, books can be liver or ice cream: good for you, or really yummy.
She and Macaluso, at the Pima County (AZ) Public Library, want kids to get started reading books that are yummy like ice cream, “then they’ll develop a palate for everything else and learn to eat more than just ice cream,” Mercado said. More from Arizona Daily Star.
Bleccccch!
I’m sorry…I’ve had a lot of ice cream in my life, and it’s never led me to liver. Liverwurst, maybe, but liver…..[shiver].
Re:Bleccccch!
So true. I remember we had a baby sitter once who made us liver for lunch. YUCK!
little meats
I won’t eat beef or pork liver, but sauteed chicken liver and onions is a fine, fine dish (add flour and sherry)…we used to call them (for the kids) “little meats”.
liver – nutrtious? think again.h tml

One piece of beef liver has 357% of the recommended daily allowance for cholesterol. It isn’t the healthiest thing to eat. Ice cream might be better for you.
Re:liver – nutrtious? think again.
I used to like liver until I learned what the liver’s function is. It is most unappetizing when you realize that one of its purposes is detoxification. Bleh!
