One card reads “Sick or not, you’ll always be my favorite librarian”. So many cards and gifts have been sent to Kay Trapp, who has been the librarian at Turtle Lake Elementary in Shoreview MN for 25 years. Reports from Twin Cities and wcco-cbs.
Friend Michelle Morse said “We call the library the heart of the school and she’s kind of the heart of the library.” The school is organizing a donor drive in her name and has been making signs to get people to the event today. “That’s the message we want to get out, is that you might be the only person that matches someone, but they’re not going to know that, unless you’re on the registry,” said Morse.
Trapp knows the need is great. She’s living proof. She continues her medical struggles and is finding time to write “thank you’s” to those who’ve helped her.
This is a disease that can be cured, hopefully Trapp will find a match today.
Bone Marrow Donation is a snap!
My brother had AML so all of my family were screened as donors. I was in the donor pool already as I was screened when donating blood several years before.
The new screening process is a simple swab from inside your cheek. These buccal cells are used in typing you and adding you to the National Marrow Donor Registry (http://marrow.org). If you are lucky you will match someone who needs your help to defeat cancer.
While I didn’t match my brother I was able to donate marrow to another patient.
At marrow.org you can sign up to be a donor (both marrow and peripheral blood stem cells). It is a simple test, free, and you can save a life in one afternoon. It beats winning the lottery.
