Board won’t force filtered browsing

Fang-Face writes “A small newspaper called Choteau Acantha, so local it does not have to identify the state in which it is published (Montana as near as I can tell), reports that the Joint City-County library is not going to mandate filtering under CIPA. The question of whether to filter or not will be left up to individual librarians and boards. The article has a few critical views of filtering and the budget crunch filtering creates.“

    I would liked to have seen Montana
    Check out the Chamber of Commerce link and you’ll see that Choteau is in Montana.

    Mandate??
    This is nothing new. CIPA, regardless of what ALA would prefer the public to know, does not mandate filters for all libraries. It’s a choice.

    Here’s the irony I love. With a nice bit of hypocrisy to boot. The fervent anti-CIPA folks can keep Uncle Sam out of their libraries. Some do however many don’t. Why? Because this would also require removing their hands from his pockets. Hence not all federal interference is bad???

    Kudos to our friends in Montana. Your money is where your mouth is.
