Berkeley CA puts $650,000 into RFID Tags

Anonymous Patron writes “The Alameda Times-Star looks at a move by the cash-strapped Berkeley Public Library in California to spend $650,000 on cutting-edge tracking technology library officials say could reduce time patrons spend in the checkout line and lessen worker strain injuries. They mention the provacy concerns RFID tags raise. The library has already attached more than 200,000 tags to books at the central branch. Plans call for all of the library’s 550,000 items to be tagged and the system to be up and running by June.”
