It’s a bit short, but CBS 3 – Philadelphia,PA has one on Ben Franklin. “There were no institutions of higher education,” said Jim Green, librarian of the Library Company of Philadelphia. “There was no way for working people like Franklin to be educated.”
Just getting a book was a challenge, Green said. Books had to be shipped to Colonial America from Europe, and were very expensive.
But, not surprisingly, the king of invention figured out a way to get the information for which he thirsted.
No MLS
Sorry Ben. Without an MLS, you’re not a librarian.
Anybody else experienced this first hand?
In my academic research library, I believe there is systemic segregation of librarians and staff members.
Ben Franklin, Friend of Libraries
I think Ben Franklin could more appropriately be referred to as the first friend of libraries. Check out my Web page on Ben at this URL:
